So what is affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is a very simple principle. Basically you are promoting vendors’ products and services. For doing this when a potential customer actually purchases a product then you as the affiliate will receive a commission.

Affiliate marketing is a very attractive business model for anyone thinking about starting an online business. The majority of the top internet marketers online today started with this model so you will be in very good company.

The beauty of this concept is that you as the affiliate do not have to think of an idea, develop it and create a product. It is all done for you.

Why Is There A Need For Affiliate Marketers?

Many companies, vendors or brands actively seek affiliates to promote their products or services because it allows them to reach a far wider audience.

Think about it if a company has say 10 sales representatives then they are severely restricted to how many people that their representatives can contact. If the company offers an affiliate program then suddenly they have a small army of sales people. All of the affiliates then go out and actively promote the product. The affiliate then receives the commission for the sale.

You may be thinking why a company would do that. Surely they would be giving away some of they profits. The thing is when you have made a sale for the company it has not cost them anything in marketing to get the customer. Therefore they are more than happy to give you a commission.

The simple and quick answer is yes. What I will not do is sugar coat it and tell you that you will make tens of thousands of dollars a month. That would be morally and ethically wrong as well as being illegal.

Affiliate marketing is a business and not a hobby. It takes time and effort to establish a business. You will get out what you put in. You will make mistakes, I know I certainly have, and from time to time you may lose money on certain promotions. The thing is to stick at it and learn from your mistakes.

• You do not need any inventory.
• You do not have to create products.
• It’s not bricks and mortar so there is no need for premises.
• You have absolutely no contact with the customers.
• You don’t have to ship the product.
• Your business is open every single day of the year, 24 hours a day. Even Christmas Day.
• No geographical ties because as long as you have an internet connection you can work anywhere in the world.
• 90% of the time your commissions will be paid direct to your bank account or Paypal account so you do not need a merchant payment processor. Sometimes you will receive a cheque in the post which sometimes is nice to hold something in your hand.

Well you could do it the hard way like I did when I first started and buy lots of courses and join numerous programs and struggle to be honest for a long while trying to work out how to put things together. Things do begin to click into place but a lot of it is certainly trial and error.
