How Does Generation X Identify Their Ideal Life?

Welcome to the next post in the Generation X series. Today I would like to talk about an exercise that to be honest I had never thought about until very recently and later on I will tell you why it was brought to my attention.

As we Generation X get a little bit older our outlook and perspective on life may gradually change. I know mine has over the last 10 years or so. For a lot of us Generation X we were brought up to work hard at school, go to college and university, carve out a career, settle down and have a family and get a mortgage. I t seemed that life was all mapped out for us and you were reading it all from a textbook. For most of us that is what we did. Now I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that, certainly not, but times have changed.

If you have read my post on the technology changes then you will be aware that there is a different way to live your life now. That’s if you want to. Nowadays you can certainly have your cake and eat it.

For me personally that way of life is not what I want anymore and I have done a specific exercise, which I will come on to in a moment, to address the life I want and I have put in place the way that I am going to get it.

So right here goes. What I would like you to do is ask yourself “What is My Ideal Life?” and I would like you to think about it in 3 ways.

1 – What would your ideal day be?
2 – What would your ideal week be?
3 – What would be your ideal month?

When you are working out this don’t think how much money it would take to get your ideal life as we can talk about that later on. Just focus on a vision on what your ideal life would look like.

When you have done the exercise look at what your life is now to what you have written down. If it the same then all well and good and I am immensely happy for you.

What you have written down may be different but at the same time you may be happy with your life so again that is fine. On the other hand if they are different and you are unhappy then maybe it is time to sit down and think on how you can change things which I will come on to in a bit.

The whole point of this exercise is about you but it may help if I go into my story a little bit. If you have read my About Me page then you already know a few details about me.

At the time of writing this I operate my own cleaning business which fortunately allows me to work the hour that I want, do the type of work I want and for people who I like. My wife is an Area Sales Manager for a food distribution company which can be stressful for her as she has many targets she has to meet. Saying that she loves it and having that pressure on her is why she is so good at her job.

We have a very nice life, we are by no means rich but we have a house in the UK and we enjoy holidays so much that we have a holiday home in Cyprus where we go three times a year. Also we will be moving there in 2016. I also have 3 grown up sons. So my life is really good and I feel incredibly fortunate. The thing is as I said I will be relocation in 2016. My wife will obviously stop doing her job and I will be forced to close down my business. So I have had to think about what I am going to do.

So I did the same exercise I am asking you to do to identify my ideal day/week/month and I based it on living in Cyprus. I have now put together an action plan to deliver that will give my wife and I that life.

Going back to my cleaning business I said that I have the freedom to work the hours that I want. That is key for me, freedom. So how am I going to achieve this? The answer is to work from home and in my case it will be in Cyprus. I am now in a training and mentoring program which also gives me the opportunity to build my own home based internet business. So basically I will walk off the aircraft which takes me to Cyprus with my business in my hand and it will deliver me and my wife the lifestyle we want. Again freedom is the priority, freedom to work when I want which will give me and my wife the freedom to do whatever we want. I personally don’t think that you can put a price on that.

Anyway back to you. Go through this exercise on your own or with your family. Identify what is important in your life and what you need to do to make your ideal life a reality. It may be that you will need to earn more money or it may be that spending more time together as a family instead of working 70-80 hours a week is your main priority. These are things that I may be able to help you with.

It really is a good exercise to do because it focuses you on what is really important. I have mine written out so that I can regularly read it to maintain my focus on why I am doing what I am doing.

As I have said there maybe things that I can help you with if you are looking for let’s just say a more time freedom future. If so then please contact me by Clicking Here. If you would like more information on what I am doing then please click on the image below and an associate of mine Stuart Ross will explain everything in more detail in a short video presentation.

As Generation X members in 2014 we really don’t need to live our lives the old way anymore as there are many different options available to us. It is just a matter of taking these opportunities.

As always I wish you well.
