So you are thinking about starting an online business but do you know exactly what you need. Starting an online business is fast becoming very popular as our daily lifestyles change aswell as we are in the age of technological change.

It is very easy to leverage all the resources that are available to get your dream of starting an online business off the ground and become part of the digital economy.

Starting An Online Business – What You Need

Internet – An obvious statement I know. Try to get the fastest connection that your budget and provider can offer. This helps with uploading/downloading files and general tasks that you need to perform within your business.

Devices – Again another obvious element. You need a device of some description whether that be a desktop computer, laptop (PC or Mac), tablets and smartphones.

My preference is a laptop as it can be used statically in your home office and is portable so you can basically take it anywhere. It really is up to you. Some people prefer desktops, others tablets and smartphones.

In my opinion desktops and laptops offer more functionality if you are a full time marketer. Smartphones are great if you are on the go to check everthing is running ok and they are also handy if you want to shoot a quick video and post it online. Again money may come into it but try and get the best one for your money.

Products – What Are You Going To Sell? – The first option may be your own products which you have either the idea for or have already created them. The downside to this is that it can be quite expensive and time consuming to develop.

You also have to think about how you are going to take payments and fulfill the product and service.

Pros

• Chance to produce your brand and product line
• Keep 100% of the profits
• Offer resell rights to other marketers

Cons

• Can be expensive to develop and take time
• You have to deal with customers
• Offer payment services and fulfillment
• Deal with returns or refunds

The other option is Affiliate products. You may not be aware of these but basically you offer other peoples products and services for which you receive a commission from the sale. A great way to start and you can operate an affiliate marketing business and not have to have your own website.

Pros

• Very low start up costs
• No product development
• No fulfillment
• No need to set up payment gateways
• No contact with customers
• Potential to make “High Ticket Commissions” of $1000+ (If You Have The Right Products)
• Easy to start (Potential of making money from day 1)

Cons

• Really can’t think of any.

A great business model if you are starting an online business as it gets you familiar with online marketing and e-commerce to give you thee confidence to start developing your own products.

Training/Mentoring – A vital element to your online success. Education is key as with any new venture. You may have the best products in the world whether they are your own or affiliate products but if you don’t know how to market them online then you won’t sell anything.

So concentrate yourself on getting educated with online courses, attending live seminars and workshops and then take massive action and implement what you have learnt.

One word of warning. There are a lot of scams and rubbish material around so take your time and research the best training available before parting with you hard earned money.

Also get yourself a mentor. This could be very closely connected with with the training aspect. If you can work with someone who is a proven success then you could get all the training that you need from that person. You also get to adopt their mindset and can in some respects copy and paste their success.

Belief – If you don’t believe in what you are doing then sorry you have no chance of succeeding. I don’t want to sound harsh but that is fact.

Try to find out your “Why“. Meaning the reason you want to start an online business. Do you want more time with your family, do you want more money or is it a change in direction. Once you know your “why” it will give you the motivation to achieve your goals.

Taking Action – Pretty self explanatory. If you consistently take massive action then in time you will start to see results.

I have tried to lay this post out in the simplest terms so if you are thinking about starting an online business then in my opinion these are the core elements that you need. Obviously certain elements are more detailed than others but one tip I will give you is to try and keep this uncomplicated.

For example. With the products you sell. If you have you own product line then all well and good. If you go down the affiliate route then only deal with a select few companies and product lines as it can get complicated if you are promoting hundreds of products.

Also when you find the right training and mentoring then stick with that becaue if you take influence from too many people all you will do is confuse yourself.
