There Is Some Confusion To Just What The Generation X Years Are So Here Is A Summary To See If You Fit The Generation X Era

The Generation X years fall after the baby boomer era so we, as I am a generation x member, are a bi-product of the boomer revolution.

Now you may be on this webpage to see if you do in fact fall in the generation x years so here is what I have managed to find out to see if you are a member of this generation.

The original theory was that the Generation X years fall between the mid 1960’s and late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

To narrow it down a bit further the general census was that the Generation X years are from 1964 – 1981.

However some people thought that people who were born between 1961 – 1964 were not in effect baby boomers as they did not feel like boomers so in some quarters have been labelled as Generation X.

The actual term Generation X did not come into effect until 1991 when a Canadian author Douglas Coupland wrote the now infamous novel Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture.

Previously Generation X had been referred to as Post-Boomer, Baby Busters, New Lost Generation and Latch Key Kids.

Personally I think that some of those terms are derogatory and disrespectful. We are a generation in our own right and I think the term Generation X is cool.

Anyway getting back to the Generation X years. I have done a lot of research on this and as I have said before there have been a lot of demographers who all have their own opinion but I will stick my neck out and say I agree with the 1964 – 1981 bracket.

The Generation X years saw a lot of changes. Going through the end of the swinging sixties, the hippy stage, glam rock, punk and entering the revival of the mod era.

Politically and culturally there were many transformations but I think one of the major developments was technology.

I can remember our first colour television. We had one before my school and then they bought the same one and I had to show them how to use it.I bit of classroom kudos there!

Also we started to enter the digital age such as watches, alarm clocks, the teasmade (remember that). The first home computers hit the shops as well as video games consoles.

We had a video recorder. The ability to record a television program and watch it the next day was a revelation and novelty that did not wear off.

The digital age that we now live in has a lot to the thank the Generation X years. The inventors and entrepreneurs from then have made a lasting impression from the last 35 – 50 years.

Because of those concepts we live a life that is in a lot of respects automated. You can run your entire life from your phone, computer or tablet.

Shopping, how you absorb information, entertainment and as well as running your business is all possible from a small device that you carry around with you on a daily basis.

The Generation X years play a huge part in the life that we wive now and pioneers from then are still going strong now. I and we as members of Generation X should be proud to be associated with the term and the part it has played in history.

To your success.
