pete harrisAs a digital marketer and online business owner I have built many websites for my business over the years which consist of multiple pages which explains what my business is about, who I am, the products and services that I offer, a blog facility, contact pages, legal pages, adding widgets to show elements like calendars, recent blog posts, updates, advertising banners the list can go on and on and on.

Just by reading the previous paragraph you can see how complicated it is to build a website but when you physically create one you can probably 100x the complexity. Saying that though I highly recommend that you build your corporate or authority website because this gives you and your business the credibility it needs to compete with other businesses in your niche. What I am saying is that in my opinion is is far better to create a customer sales funnel that directs them to your individual products and services rather than sending them to your products and services tab which may contain multiple products which could confuse them.

As a consumer myself I don’t hang around on websites that are too complicated and confusing, I value my time too much to circumnavigate around to eventually find the product I am looking to buy. I will click away and go to the next website until I find an easy way to purchase what I am looking for. So as a online business owner I now put myself in the shoes of a consumer to try and make the experience as stress free as possible for them to purchase what they need.

The nature of my business is that I predominantly deal with digital information products but I do offer some physical products as well. The process that I want to talk about is relevant to both types of products and services so can be applied to any business model that you may operate.

The process I set up now is to create a specific customer sales funnel for each product or product line I offer. The reason behind this is that when the customer clicks on my ad, or a link within a blog post or social media post they will directed to a page which showcases the product they are looking for and not to a gallery page which contains all my products and services.

You have approximately 5 seconds to catch the consumers attention with your offer as people have very busy lives and do not have the time to click around to find what they want. If you are sending consumers directly to your product portfolio page with many different drop down options you are losing out on a lot of potential sales because people simply get fed up jumping through the hoops that they are faced with.

Instead you should be sending them directly to a stand alone offer through a customer sales funnel process. If you have pre-sold them correctly in your ad copy or your article then when they click on your link they will expect to see a product or service that they need. This is beneficial in two ways, the first is that the customer gets the solution they are looking for and secondly it will save you money on your advertising because you are being very specific in your ad copy, your offer and not sending them to broad and general information which they will click away from.

You would start off with offering something for free, this may be information, a consultation, a presentation, anything that is a hook to get them to give you their email address. Once they enter their email address you can direct them to a thank you page which upsells to a product that compliments the free offer, therefore generating a transaction. Also when they have entered their email address another action takes place, this is where they are added to a email list of subscribers which is very powerful because you can then follow up with them by offering value but also promoting the other products and services which may be beneficial to them.

Hopefully you can see the benefit and potential of this system rather than sending them to your products tab and running the risk of losing that potential customer forever. Basically this is a 2 or 3 step system to attract highly qualified people to your offer because you are being ultra specific. The first step is to capture their details and offer something for free. The second step is to say thank you and by the way you may be interested in this product, and the third step is communicating with them through email marketing.

You first make people aware of what you have to offer, they then form an opinion as to whether they feel your offer is right for them, then they will take time to consider if this is what they need which leads them to their preferred option which they then go onto purchase.

If you can form this process which people can go through then you will have a far greater chance to increase your sales and build a relationship with a huge data base of individuals which will then become the biggest asset for your business.
