Hello, Pete Harris here, and today I want to share with you something that I have recently became aware of that has changed the game when you want to create a membership website either to share information for free or to charge a monthly subscription for. In the digital marketing world having a subscription based business model is somewhat seen as the holy grail for any online business owner.
The concept is quite simple. You have your content contained in a platform that people can access whenever they want for which they pay you a monthly fee for that privilege. This means that you have passive income coming into your business every month and all you have to do is maintain your membership site for your members to enjoy. Cash flow is always good because it is entirely possible that money will paid to you every single day, when you are asleep, on holiday, on the golf course or having dinner at your favourite restaurant with your wife, husband or partner.

That would probably cover your mortgage and car payment for the month and have money left over. Life would become less stressful because you would be guaranteed that money month in and month out. As a digital marketer myself I have created membership websites in the past but have found that the process has always been complicated. There are many moving parts that you have to sync together for the membership website to function properly. First you have to purchase a domain name then link that up to a website hosting company, once that is set up you have have to install a membership site theme, especially if you are using WordPress which has always been the go to place for online businesses.
If you don’t install a membership theme then you will need a membership script to install on any other WordPress theme and link it up to your payment processor so that you can accept transactions. This maybe PayPal, Stripe, WorldPay or any of the other services that are available within the country you live.
At this point you will have scratched your head until your hair falls out by trying to piece all this together but there is still more for you to do. You may need other software applications to build landing pages, account creation pages and the membership areas and then losing the will to live trying to link them all up together and to your auto-responder.
You then have to configure you membership content areas and pages by installing forms, widgets, sidebar navigation areas, headers, footers and menus. After possible weeks of trying to pull everything together you think that you have finally cracked it so you start to test things out only to find application A isn’t compatible with application Z and you fee like throwing your computer out of the window. I know that feeling!
