Can Baby Boomers Retiring Be Sure That Their Pension Will Give Them A Comfortable Lifestyle?
The first influx of baby boomers retiring has happened over the last 4-5 years but there are millions around the world where it is only just around the corner.
A baby boomer is someone who was born between 1946-1964. For the younger ones of this generation retirement may still be 14-15 years off but you should really start making plans now.
For myself I am 4 years off being classed as a baby boomer as I was born in 1968 but even for myself it is a concern.
My wife is a baby boomer and she is 7 years off retirement. She has a small private pension and she will get a UK state pension.
I have not paid into my private pension for over 20 years and as I am self employed I will get a reduced state pension when the time comes.
In the UK at the moment the retirement age is 66 but I can see that it will rise to at least 70 over the next few years so that is the figure that I am looking at.
So baby boomers retiring is quite a popular subject in th UK and I am sure around the world at the moment. There is a lot of concern as to whether they will have enough money to enjoy their retirement!
With the ever inceasing cost of living for such things as food, fuel and heating if you are a baby boomer facing retirement over the next few years can you be sure that you will be ok?
As an example a heating engineer who used to call at my house had to work for an extra 3 years because he could not afford to retire when he was supposed to. His pension simply would not pay out enough for him to live.
Luckily I have time to sort things out but I appreciate that some of you may not have that sort of luxery.
Also for baby boomers there is always a niggle in the back of their mind that if they were to lose their job for any reason is age going to be a hindrance in getting another job.
Because that is what they are conditioned to do. Get another job.
It does not have to be that way. There are options available to you.
So What Can You Do?
Well the option that I want to talk about is starting your own online business. Now there is no need to be scared of that proposition. You have all the business and personal experiences you have gained so far. That amounts to about 95% of what is needed.
