The affiliate marketing definition is that affiliate marketing is a type of performance based marketing where product vendors pay affiliates who refer customers or leads to their particular business.

A more detailed affiliate marketing definition is that there are four parties involved with affiliate marketing.

They are the product vendor, affiliate network, the affiliate and the customer.

The product vendor is the brand or retailer.

The affiliate network contains and lists offers from vendors for the affiliate to choose.

The affiliate or sometimes called the publisher is basically the middle man who directs potential leads or customers to the offers.

The customer is obviously the purchased where the monetary transaction takes place.

Now some people get confused as they see affiliate marketing as internet marketing. Affiliate marketing uses methods contained in internet marketing but internet marketing is a whole bigger space.

Affiliate marketing is where you promote specific products and services and this can be done both online and offline.

Affiliate marketing is a powerful and growing industry which is becoming a very popular business model for entrepreneurs of all sizes to dip their toe into the world of online business.

Product vendors actively seek affiliates to promote their products and service because the affiliates do all the marketing for them. It saves the vendors time and is cost effective even when the commission payouts are taken into account.

For the affiliates it is an attractive business model because they can promote proven and tested product lines. There is no need for the affiliates to come up with ideas, develop or test products  which can be very expensive.

All the affiliates have to do is promote or market the products and services. The most important aspect for affiliates to monitor is that the returns they get in regard to commissions paid are higher than their marketing costs.

Affiliates can promote both digital and physical products but they can also earn commissions by simply capturing email addresses, names, phone numbers or post codes.

When affiliates join programs or networks they are given an affiliate link. This link is what they promote and when someone buys a product or service or take an action such as leaving their email address or name then the affiliate receives a commission depending on just what action the person has taken.

Affiliates can send people to a variety of websites or webpages such as lead capture pages where something is offered fro free of to full blown sales pages where the product or offer is available for purchase.

A Simple Affiliate Marketing Definition Formula

Product Vendor >>>> Affiliate >>>> Customer

Affiliate Advertisement >>>> Customer >>>> Sales $$$$

So there is my affiliate marketing definition. A simple business model where everybody is a winner. The product vendor increases sales, the customer gets what they want and the affiliate makes commissions.
