Affiliate Marketing Tips To Help You Succeed!
Affiliate Marketing is a fanatastic business model if you are thinking of starting on online business. It is a very easy and cost effective entry into world of online marketing. This is the model that I personally used when I started.
Basically Affiliate Marketing is the process of promoting and marketing other peoples products and services. The main benefit in my opinion is that the product is already created and in many cases the cost of creating and developing a product can run into many thousands of dollars.
I have put together a list of 6 tips which I hope and feel sure will help you into deciding if Affililate Marketing is for you.
Research – As I have said Affiliate Marketing is one of the easiest ways to start you own business but it is essential that yo do some research into Affiliate Programs that you may be considering working with. Join Internet Marketing forums so you can find out what people are saying about the affiliate programs. Ask questions regarding the quality of the products, the support network offered, do they pay the commissions on time and how much are the commissions.
Education – One thing that I would advise, especially if you are a newbie, is to find out if the affiliate program actually offers any form of education and training on how to actually promote their products. In my experience many don’t and to this day I still can not comprehend why. You would have thought that it would be in their best interest to do that so you as the affiliate can make more sales so that the vendor (product owner) ultimately makes more money. There are some really good programs around who give you instructional videos, manuals to download and lots of resources, it is just a matter of finding them.
WARNING – This tip carries on from the previous regarding education. I must warn you because I have been a victim, I know that is a strong word but in this industry it can be very apt. I strongly advise you of being very wary of so called “Get Rich Quick Schemes” and “Push Button Software“. Some people are very unethical and will try to brainwash you that if you click 2 or 3 buttons you will make thousands of dollars per month. Quite frankly that is total “RUBBISH” and forgive me to sound rude “BS“. To be successful take work, full stop.
There are lots of Internet Marketing training courses available. I would adopt the same principle as you would do with the affiliate programs. Reasearch everything about the courses, read reviews, find out about the so called “Gurus” who are offering the courses. Do they “Walk the Walk“, if they don’t then steer clear.
Your Affiliate Link – When you sign up to a program you will be given a specific affiliate link and it is in the form of a specific URL. So lets just say your name is “John Smith” and you sign up for a pet food company called “ABC Dog Treats”. You can expext your link to look something like this – http://johnsmith/abcdogtreats.com. It incorporates your name and the name of the company.
This is the link that you will promote so that when some one clicks on it and go on to purchase the product that sale is tracked back to you and you get credited with the sale. The companies system should work to make this process happen. Now I don’t want to sound cynical or untrusting but the first thing I do when I join the program is buy the product.
Why I say this is once I worked with a company, I was sending lots of traffic to the offer but I was not getting any sales even though it was a good product. I don’t know why or how it happened but I developed a bad feeling so I got my wife to purchase the product. To my horror when I checked all my statistics they did not credit me with the sale. Needless to say I confronted them, they gave me some lame excuse but there was no way I could find out how many more sales I had made and not been paid. I promtly left the program.
Also if you buy the product you can check the quality of the product and the service which is never a bad thing.
Passion – Sometimes it is difficult to think of what to promote. A lesson that I learnt early on was to think about what you are interested in more importantly what you know about. For me it was easy. I love golf, watching and playing (not very well) so I reasearched into golf affiliate programs which were available.
The ones I found offered equipment, clothing and training products. I developed a website with these products as well as informationand went onto market it. I did ok but if anything the site was too busy, meaning I was promoting everything.
If I was to do it again I would just concentrate on one aspect, for example “Golf Clubs” or “Golf Bags“, just to keep it simple. They say that the best and most profitable ideas are when you keep it simple.
Money – My final tip is “High Ticket Commissions“. Why I say that is the process of selling a $20 E-book is the same as selling a $1000 Traning Course. It is all about “Marketing“. You just have to find a targetmarket looking for a product which will satisfy their need. It is basic supply and demand.
Now I am not going to turn this into a maths lesson but lets just have a quick look at some figures so I can explain what I mean.
Lets say you have set a goal of earning $2500 a month –
If you had a $20 E-book and you were getting a 50% commission you would have to sell 250 units a month.
If you had a $1000 Training Course and you were getting 50% commission you would have to sell 5 units a month.
I am sure you can see that is a “No Brainer“. I am a great one for sayings and one of my most favourite ones is “Work Smart Not Hard“. You can adopt that saying or even implement it as a concept into this example.
Basically you work less for the same money, therefore allowing you more time to enjoy what you like doing. That may be playing more golf, travelling the world or what I think is the most important things, spending more quality time with your family.
Now I will give you one more tip. I know that I have already given you the 6 tips that I promised but I always like to over deliver.
To succeed you must have focus. You must master one strategy before moving onto another. Get something working and bringing in money then you will find it easier to develop another strategy. Be clear where you want to end up, develop a plan of action and execute it.
