Are Generation X Looking For A Change Of Direction?

Following on from yesterday when I talked about how Generation X are facing up to the future today I would like to talk about how Generation X maybe becoming a bit stale and looking for a new direction in life.

Why I say that is because we may have been doing the same thing day in day out and been asking ourselves “Is there something else out there?”

The trouble is we may ask that question but don’t take action and follow through and explore different avenues.

This maybe due to the fact that we are scared, too comfortable and in some instances prepared to accept that this is our lot in life.

That mindset may come from our parents. My father worked for the electricity board for 35 years before taking early retirement at the age of 63. So from the age of 28 he was digging up raods and laying cables.

He is an amazing man and someone I always look up to and he provided, along with my mum bless her, a safe and happy home for myself and my two brothers. The thing is that is what his generation did. Nothing wrong with that but we as Gen Xers don’t have to do the same thing.

We are young enough and have the education to source different ways of making a living. We have been brought up through an era of a technology revolution.

personal computerThink back to the 70’s and 80’s when things like diital watches and hand held game consoles were the in thing.

Personal computers evolved and the digital age brought us CD’s & DVD’s and mobile phones began to take over our lives.

So put that altogether and we have a total package of education and skill sets to tackle the digital economy we now live in. More on that later.

So going back to the issue of becoming a bit stale and the influences of our parents. We grew up thinking that this is the way to go. Go to school, get our O’levels (remember those), get a job, seek promotion and do that job for 30 years and then move onto retirement.

If you are happy with that then fine and I wish you good luck for your future. If not and you are more like me then please keep reading.

Window CleanerSo I have been doing the same thing for nearly 25 years. I have the influence from my parents to work hard but instead of having a proper job I have done it working for myself.

Up and down a ladder cleaning windows as well as carpets and patios/driveways. My knees, ankles and back are telling me they want a rest.

Also I have become a bit stale and comfortable and accepted that this is what I do.

No disrespect to window cleaning but anybody can do it. It’s not really a skill more a knack and once you have got the knack you can do it in your sleep. For a non skilled job you can make some really good money and it has served me well.

The only thing is that I have always thought that I could do better and again that is no disrespect to window cleaners.

Hopefully you can relate to what I am saying and see similarities to your life. Also I am fortunate in some respects that my sons are all grown up and making their own way in the world so the sign of “Bank Of Dad” hs been lowered, not completely gone, but not used as much any more.

I appreciate that you may not be at the same stage as me but it will come. So now at the age of 46 a change of direction is what my back, knees and ankles have ordered.

Going back to what I briefly touched on earlier in respect of the digital economy.

change directionTimes have changed and the opportunities that available now and have been for a few years now mean that we don’t have to do the same thing day in day out anymore.

Everyday can be different and can be exciting. You have the chance to be creative and help people. You get to control your life and get paid for it.

No more doing the same monotonous tasks and getting the sense of deja vous!

So in February 2014 I started to change direction. Why I say started is because this new career path can be run alongside my existing business until I am in a position of making the change permanent.

It is something that you don’t need any previous experience because you get taught how to do it. What it can give you is the chance to incorporate all the life experiences and knowledge you have gained to create a lifestyle of time and financial freedom.

Really the only qualification you need is the one that has been instilled into us from our parents and that is HARD WORK. When I say that I don’t mean digging up roads and climbing ladders. Just work ethic.

So if this is something that you like the sound of and maybe are interested in then please click on the image below and you will be taken to a video presentation which will show you how you can make this change of direction.

Generation X are really a generation of forward tinking and highly motivated people so let’s show thee rest of the world what we can do.

As always I wish you well.
