Have You Ever Imagined What It Would Be Like To Fire Your Boss?
To fire your boss is a major decision to make but I can still remember the feeling that I had when I went into work one day a long time ago and handed in my resignation.
Elation, excitement, fear but having the weight on my shoulders lifted. All of these emotions packaged up knowing that I had done it.
Things had been building up over a few months and it all came to a head and I realised that the time was right to finally take control of my life.
The look on his face was priceless. I think that he thought that I would never have the balls to do it and it was satisfying to know that I had proved him wrong.
The next 3 weeks were great. He was being nice and trying every trick in the book to get me to stay but I had made the decision and was going to keep to it.
I had been unhappy, stressed out, I was chain smoking because I hated my job so much and I had always wanted to be my own boss and in that moment of handing in my resignation I had achieved my goal.
My entrepreneurial journey had begun. Now this is 25 years ago and I was 22 and naive. I thought it would be easy, I knew what I wanted to do but in a lot of respects I wass doing it on the fly. Basically I was flying the plane while building it as I went along.
So although I totally encourage you to fire your boss if that is what you want to do I would advise you to be more tactical about how you do it.
It would be so much better if you could build the plane in the background while still collecting your pay cheque and when it is complete you then take the controls and fly off into the sunset. Wouldn’t it?
